About Halifax

An Atlantic Ocean port in eastern Canada, Halifax is the capital of Nova Scotia.

A major business centre, it’s also known for its maritime history. The city’s dominated by the hilltop Citadel, a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. Waterfront warehouses known as the Historic Properties recall Halifax’s days as a trading hub for privateers, notably during the War of 1812.

With a population of 412,674, Halifax is a major economic centre in Atlantic Canada, including a large concentration of government services and private sector companies.

About the Halifax Housing Market

Halifax saw a great summer housing market following the onset of COVID-19. As of July 2020, multiple bids were continuing to create an extremely competitive market.

That’s because overall supply is running at the lowest levels in more than a decade and continues to fall. Active residential listings numbered 4,334 units at the end of July. This was a large decline of 36.5% from the end of July 2019.

The average home price is around $290,000.
